Tumblr & Facebook iOS apps embrace Live Photos

This month, blogging site Tumblr lead the charge and Facebook followed closely behind in embracing Live Photos, a new feature that was previously only supported by iPhone 6s and 6s plus.

Live Photos are a new, dynamic photo introduced with the release of iOS 9 and OS X El Capitan.

Tumblr and Facebook are the first apps to support this, amongst other features.

In both platforms, users will be able to differentiate these Live Photos from regular photos with the same 3 circle icon, as would appear in the iPhone camera roll. Once uploaded to these apps, these photos will be visible to any user on a device running iOS 9 or later, even if not on an iPhone 6s.

It is interesting to see these apps incorporating this latest iPhone feature, with Tumblr users known for their love of GIFs, it is natural that they jumped on this new addition. It comes as no surprise that Facebook is amongst the first of the social media platforms to adjust to this change, as this social media giant is never one to be left behind.
